Stripes like ink on silver

On the silver tigers the stripes do the work. Long, tapering bands filled in black run over a bright, highly polished surface, so each animal reads almost like a drawing in ink on silver. No two tigers share the same stripe pattern, and that is the idea these pieces carry: the markings are the portrait.

The Silver Tiger Statue sits upright on its haunches, chest forward, head level and alert, with the composure of a sentinel. The Resting Silver Tiger Statue lies on its side, head bowed toward its crossed forepaws as if grooming, the long striped tail curving behind it. The seated tiger suits an entrance hall or a console; the resting one belongs on a low table.

Courage, protection and family

The tiger is one of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac, and in East Asian tradition it stands for courage and protection. As the largest of the big cats, it carries that meaning with a natural authority, which is why a seated silver tiger statue watching over a study or a front door feels less like decoration than like company.

The Silver Tigers Family Statue is the busiest composition of the collection: adult tigers and cubs climbing over and around a dark log, every body turned a different way, so the stripes break into a pattern of their own. It is the piece to set at the centre of a sideboard, where it can be walked around.

Cubs in silver, gold and matte black

The cubs have big heads, round ears and wide, dark-rimmed eyes. The Playful Tiger Statue Cub in Silver crouches low with its tail raised in an S-curve, and the Sitting Silver Tiger Statue Cub faces the viewer squarely. The Silver Bengal Tiger Cub Statue lies with one forepaw lifted, a nod to the Bengal tiger, India's national animal.

In 24-karat gold the treatment changes: the Gold Tiger Cub Statue carries its stripes in relief rather than in black and lies with its head up, warm and soft-edged. The Black Sitting Tiger Statue Cub is matte charcoal-black with the stripes only as relief, a quiet, graphic piece. Our leopard, jaguar and lion statues, the land animal sculptures and our silver sculptures continue the family.

Frequently asked questions

What does a tiger statue symbolise?

In East Asian tradition the tiger stands for courage and protection, and it is one of the twelve animals of the Chinese zodiac. A tiger figurine is a gift with meaning for someone born in a year of the tiger, for a new office or for a home that needs a guardian.

Silver or gold: which reads better in a living room?

Silver shows the stripes in black, crisp and graphic, and suits a pale or contemporary room. The gold cubs carry their stripes in relief and glow against wood and darker walls. A silver adult with a gold cub beside it brings both temperaments to one shelf.

Can I see a tiger before it ships?

Yes. An art advisor can show any piece on a video call, measurements and finish included. Each tiger is protected by a resistant lacquer, so a soft, dry cloth keeps it bright and metal polish is best avoided. We ship throughout Mexico from our Mexico City workshop.
