Human Creations in Sculpture

A car, an armchair, a pair of scissors, a woven basket, a sailboat: human creations turned into sculpture, from Salvador Dalí's surreal objects to masks for the wall, finished by hand in silver, 24-karat gold and copper.

Pieces from $5,260 to $97,200 MXN

Dalí's dressed and melting objects

Salvador Dalí returned again and again to soft, melting objects and furniture. The Clothed Automobile Sculpture by Salvador Dalí is a vintage silver sedan draped in loose gold cloth, as if the car had been dressed for an evening out. Beside it, a soft silver form taken from his 1940 painting Daddy Longlegs of the Evening spills over a stack of dark bricks.

An armchair from his paintings completes the trio, moulded in silver around a sitter who is not there. Each Salvador Dalí sculpture is made under a licence approved by the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí, and the full set has its own Salvador Dalí page.

Tools, vessels, boats and fire

Some pieces give an ordinary object a second life. A pair of silver scissors opens long blades below ornate looped handles, made to hang on a wall, and a round, two-handled basket has its silver braided like wicker. Silver Tlaloc's Pot turns a lidded pot into the face of the Mexica god of rain, with goggle eyes, a curled, fanged mouth and a step-patterned lid.

The Silver Sailboat Sculpture sets two curved, polished sails over a blue-green base shaped like a wave, and a second sailboat carries a single sail with a fine mesh texture. The Flame Sculpture folds polished silver around a bright gold tongue of fire, while its abstract companion is a flame statue reduced to a tall, twisting silver loop on a black block.

Masks for the wall

Decorative masks have a long history in carnival, above all in Venice. The Gold Sun Mask sets a silver face inside gold, flame-like rays, and its moon counterpart rests in a crescent edged with gold. Harlequin, the stock character of the Italian commedia dell'arte, becomes the Harlequin Mask: silver and gold, a green leaf crest and pointed jester trim.

Other faces are framed by nature: a swan's neck and a gold ring, copper butterfly wings with silver panels, or deep green leaves scattered with small gold flowers. Our Decorative masks page carries the idea further, and the vases by Attanasio Mazzone and Jordi Veytia, soft, swollen shapes in mirror silver or rosy copper, lead on to our flower vases.

Frequently asked questions

What belongs among human creations?

Sculptures of things people make and use: furniture, a car, boats, scissors, a basket, a pot, masks, flames and vases. Each is designed and finished by hand in our Mexico City workshop.

Where does the sun mask come from?

Sun and moon faces are a familiar motif in Mexican folk art, and this piece belongs to that family: a silver face ringed by gold rays. Hung beside the moon mask, it makes a pair of day and night on one wall.

How do I care for these pieces?

A resistant lacquer protects every finish, so a soft, dry cloth is all it needs; metal polish and cleaning agents are best avoided. Each carries our lifetime guarantee covering manufacturing defects, an art advisor can show any piece on a video call, and we ship throughout Mexico.
