Gold deer sculpture on a shelf in a minimalist interior

Deer Sculptures

Deer statues that rest with their legs folded and their heads raised: Thai deer in 24-karat gold dressed in silver ornament, and a single deer in silver crowned with gold horns, finished by hand in Mexico City.

Pieces from $18,180 to $306,620 MXN

A pose of watchful calm

Every deer in this collection reclines, legs folded beneath the body, the long, slender neck upright and the head lifted. It is the moment a resting animal hears something and has not yet decided to move, and it gives each reclining deer statue a stillness that is alert rather than sleepy. The pieces differ in the turn and height of the head and in the spread of the antlers.

The Gold Thai Deer Statue - Great Sambar Deer is the most imposing, its tall, thin, branching antlers in silver opening wide above the head. The sambar is a large deer native to South and Southeast Asia, Thailand included, and the Golden Thai Deer Statue - Sambar shares its bearing, the head set at a different angle.

Gold bodies, silver ornament

The Thai deer are finished in high-polish 24-karat gold and dressed in silver: a saddle cloth draped over the back, worked with floral scrollwork in relief, beaded borders and a round medallion on the haunch, with a matching silver collar band and a small curled tail. The same ornate cloth dresses our Indian elephants, and the two collections sit naturally side by side.

The Young Thai Gold Deer Statue and the Resting Female Thai Gold Deer Statue complete the herd. Placed in a row along a console or a mantel, a group of gold deer reads as a quiet procession, each head turned toward its own point, and the silver antlers draw a fine line of light above the gold.

One deer in reverse

The Silver Deer Statue 24 K Horns turns the scheme around. Its body is smooth and stylised, mirror-bright silver with flowing, almost liquid contours, and two long, ridged horns in 24-karat gold sweep straight back from the head. It is the most contemporary piece of the collection, a silver deer that belongs as easily in a modern study as among classical pieces.

Gold body with silver ornament, or silver body with gold horns: that contrast is the thread through these deer statues for home decor. In Mexico the deer is also the heart of the Yaqui Deer Dance, which we portray in our Mexican dancers collection, and our land animal sculptures and gold sculptures widen the circle.

Frequently asked questions

Why is a deer so often shown beside the Buddha?

In Buddhist tradition the Buddha gave his first sermon in the Deer Park at Sarnath, and a deer often appears beside him. A gold deer set near a Buddha figure carries that memory; our Buddhist art collection gathers pieces in the same spirit.

Gold or silver: which deer suits which room?

The Thai deer, gold with silver ornament, glow against dark wood, deep green or ivory walls; the silver deer with gold horns suits glass, stone and pale rooms. Because each piece joins both metals, either sits easily beside gold or silver objects already in a home.

How does a gold deer keep its polish?

Each piece is protected by a resistant lacquer, so a soft, dry cloth is all it needs; metal polish and cleaning agents are best kept away. Every deer carries our lifetime guarantee covering manufacturing defects, and we ship throughout Mexico from Mexico City.
