Black Sculptures

In black, a sculpture gives up colour and keeps everything else: muscle, skin, fur and line. Bulls, giraffes, elephants, big-cat cubs and a golden retriever in a deep black copper finish, with glossy black design vases alongside.

Silhouette first

Black has long been the colour of formal elegance and of modern design, and on a sculpture a dark finish turns attention away from colour and towards silhouette and texture. The animals here share a deep charcoal black with a soft metallic sheen, so the light picks out muscle, folds of skin and the grain of a coat. Against white walls or under gallery-style lighting, these black sculptures read with the clarity of a drawing.

The Black Golden Retriever is the wittiest piece of the collection: a dog famous for its golden coat, bred in Scotland in the nineteenth century as a gundog, here sitting upright with its head turned, smooth and glossy in black. It belongs just as much on our Dog statues page, and it is the kind of piece people look at twice.

Bulls, giraffes and elephants

The toro bravo, the fighting bull, is a symbol of strength in Spanish and Mexican culture. The Black Bull Statue stands four-square with its horns raised, while the Black Copper Charging Bull Statue lowers its head under a dense, curly brow, its weight thrown forward. In black, the musculature itself becomes the subject.

The Black Giraffe Statue Head Down Mother bends her long neck towards the ground, her patchwork coat drawn in relief, while the father stands tall. The Black Elephant Figurine Trunk Up shows deeply wrinkled skin and pale tusks, the trunk raised high, and a black elephant statue in a decorated Indian mantle brings ceremony to the same dark finish. Our Elephant statues page gathers them in every finish.

Cubs, a swan and gloss-black vases

Smaller pieces carry the same finish. The tiger cub crouches with its stripes in relief, the leopard cub sits upright with rosettes carved into its surface, and the shark is slender and streamlined. A swan opens its wings in sweeping, stylised curves, and a horse gallops over a rocky base, a black horse statue full of movement.

Beside the animals, the Blobware I Black Vase brings a different black: a smooth, rounded, pebble-like form in high gloss with a small opening, joined by a pair of full lips in the same gloss black. Together they give black home decor a sculptural accent in a contemporary room, and a counterpoint to the softer surfaces of our Matte black sculptures.

Frequently asked questions

Where do black animal statues look best?

Black suits contemporary interiors, white walls and gallery-style lighting, where the dark finish draws the eye to silhouette and texture. On a pale console or a stone shelf a single piece reads clearly; several together form a small, graphic menagerie.

How is the black finish cared for?

The animals' finish is protected by a resistant lacquer, so a soft, dry cloth is all it needs, and metal polish is best avoided. The gloss-black vases need nothing more than the same cloth. Every piece carries our lifetime guarantee covering manufacturing defects.

Are these pieces made by hand?

Yes. Each one is designed and finished by hand in Mexico City. An art advisor can show you any piece on a video call, and we ship throughout Mexico.
