An animal as old as art
Aurochs, the wild ancestors of cattle, are among the animals painted on the walls of the Lascaux caves in France, and in many ancient cultures, Minoan Crete among them, the bull stood for strength and fertility. Taurus, the bull, is still a sign of the zodiac. Few animals have held their place in art for so long.
Our bulls carry that weight. The neck is massive and the shoulder hump high; forelock, brow and hump wear a dense, curly coat, while the flanks and legs are smooth and polished, so the light gathers on the body. The horns curve forward and up. Each bull sculpture stands free, without a base, and its silhouette reads from every side.
Standing proud
The Gold Bull Statue stands with its head raised high and its horns up, alert and proud, the 24-karat gold warm against a pale wall or a dark desk. The Black Bull Statue takes the same pose in a black copper finish, a dark gunmetal tone that turns the musculature into silhouette; it sits naturally among our Black sculptures.
The Silver Bull Statue strikes a third attitude. Its lowered head turns to one side and a foreleg lifts, as if the animal had just noticed something at the edge of the field. In bright silver it is the most reflective of the standing bulls, catching every change of light across the polished flanks.
The charging bull
In 1989 Arturo Di Modica's Charging Bull was installed near Wall Street in New York, and the charging bull became a symbol of financial optimism; a rising market is still called a bull market. Our charging bulls keep the essential gesture: head lowered, horns forward, one foreleg bent and the whole weight thrown ahead.
They come in three finishes. The Silver Charging Bull Statue is bright and cool, the Gold Charging Bull Statue suits a trading desk or a business milestone, and the Black Copper Charging Bull Statue is dark and dense. For an office, a Taurus or a partner, our Gifts for him page gathers more ideas.
Frequently asked questions
What does a charging bull symbolise?
Optimism, momentum and prosperity. Since Arturo Di Modica's Charging Bull appeared near Wall Street in 1989, the lowered head and forward weight have stood for a rising market, which is why the pose is a classic gift for an office, a trading desk or a business milestone.
Gold, silver or black copper: how do the finishes differ?
Silver is bright and cool and reflects its surroundings; 24-karat gold is warm and glows under lamplight; black copper is a dark gunmetal tone that turns the bull into a strong silhouette, especially against a light wall. An art advisor can show you each finish on a video call.
How do I care for a silver or gold bull?
Every piece is protected by a resistant lacquer, so a soft, dry cloth is all it needs; metal polish and cleaning agents are best avoided. Each bull is designed and finished by hand in Mexico City, carries our lifetime guarantee covering manufacturing defects and ships throughout Mexico.
