Copper flower vase on a dining table in front of a large window

Flower Vases

Flower vases finished by hand in silver, 24-karat gold and copper, from necklaces worn in homage to Frida Kahlo to faceted architecture and playful contemporary forms, made to hold a single stem, a loose bunch or nothing at all.

Pieces from $4,320 to $58,000 MXN

Frida Kahlo's necklaces

Frida Kahlo was known for wearing pre-Hispanic jade and bead necklaces with her Tehuana dress, and our Frida Kahlo vases were made working with her family. Each one is shaped like a woman's bare shoulders and neck in mirror silver, wears a different necklace and is signed with the initials FK.

Frida Kahlo's Green Jade Jewelry Flower Vase carries strands of green jade beads, while Frida Kahlo's Jewelry Black Pearls Flower Vase wears black pearls against the bright silver. Others in the series wear a gold chain, a copper chain or a fringe of long silver pendants. With a few stems at the neck, each Frida Kahlo vase becomes a portrait crowned with flowers, and the whole series also appears on our Frida Kahlo page.

Sculptural silver and copper

The Tulips Flower Vase is slim and white-silver, with small gold tulips at the neck: a vase for tulips in every sense, since tulips and calla lilies suit a tall, narrow form. The Modern Checkers Silver Flower Vase is a narrow, shield-like shape covered in a black and silver checkerboard, graphic enough to stand empty on a shelf. Other silver pieces set dark, rough, flame-like relief against smooth polished surfaces.

The Architecture vases have deep, diamond-faceted walls that break the light into planes. In silver they are crisp and cool; the Architecture Copper Flower Vase turns the same facets rosy and warm. Filled with flowers in the middle of a dining table, a copper vase gives the whole setting an evening glow, and it sits naturally beside our Table centerpieces.

Contemporary forms in high gloss

The third family is the most playful. The UFO vases by designer Attanasio Mazzone are hooded little figures with stubby arms and an open face, in copper and gold tones as well as bright blue, purple, yellow, orange, red and white. The Blobware vases by designer Jordi Veytia are soft, swollen egg and drop shapes, each with a single deep fold; the Gold Blobware II Vase is the warmest of them.

These modern vases need no flowers to work. On a console or a bookshelf they read as small sculptures, and in a group they make a cheerful line of colour, which is why they also belong on our Colorful sculptures page. Among decorative vases, they are the ones most likely to make someone smile.

Frequently asked questions

Which vase suits which flowers?

Tulips and calla lilies suit tall, narrow vases such as the Tulips vase or the Frida Kahlo series, while a short, wide vase holds a loose bunch. The contemporary forms are just as striking with no flowers at all.

How are silver, gold and copper vases cared for?

A resistant lacquer protects the finish, so a soft, dry cloth is all it needs; metal polish and cleaning agents are best avoided. Every vase carries our lifetime guarantee covering manufacturing defects.

Where are the vases made?

Every piece is designed and finished by hand in our Mexico City workshop, where D'Argenta has worked since 1976. We ship throughout Mexico, and an art advisor can show you any vase on a video call before you decide.
