Candle Holders

Classical columns in antiqued silver, mirror-polished modern forms, candlesticks for Shabbat and a Dalí puzzle that resolves in a mirror: candle holders designed and finished by hand in Mexico City.

Pieces from $4,680 to $36,810 MXN

Candlesticks built like architecture

From the Renaissance onwards, candlesticks borrowed the Greek architectural orders, and our classical silver candle holders keep that lineage. The Tall Column Ionic Silver Candle Holder rises on a fluted shaft to a capital of scrolled volutes; the Corinthian Silver Candle Holder crowns its column with acanthus leaves. The antiqued silver darkens in the recesses, so every leaf and scroll reads clearly.

Around them, other silver candlesticks add urn-shaped knops, scrolls and claw-like scrolled feet at different heights. Art Nouveau, from around 1890 to 1910, favoured long, plant-like lines, and the Art Nouveau Silver Candle Holder answers with a slender, smooth stem that flares like a trumpet: the quiet exception in this family.

Mirror-polished forms and a puzzle by Dalí

The modern pieces are mirror-polished silhouettes of stacked bulbs and rings, each with its own rhythm; some take their names from the bishop and the king of the chessboard, in Spanish, and look the part. Another is a tall square prism with sculpted relief on one face. Grouped at different heights, these decorative candle holders read like a small skyline.

The Silver Candle Holder Anamorphosis by Salvador Dalí stands a mirror-polished cylinder on a white disc printed with a distorted black drawing, which straightens out when seen reflected in the cylinder. Cylindrical anamorphosis is an old optical trick that Dalí loved, and the piece is made under a licence approved by the Fundació Gala-Salvador Dalí.

Shabbat and the seven-branch candelabra

On Friday evening two candles are lit to welcome Shabbat. The Silver Shabbat Candle Holder holds them above a stone-textured base carved with the houses and walls of Jerusalem, and a taller companion twists two smooth stems up from a stony base. These shabbat candle holders belong as much to our Judaica as to this page.

The Gold Seven-Branch Candelabra rises from a rounded, vase-like body covered in flowing floral relief, finished in 24-karat gold, and the same 7 arm candle holder exists in silver: a gold candelabra or a silver candelabra for the centre of a formal table. A long, gnarled silver branch carries a row of candles, and a flowing nativity arch also appears among our Christian and Catholic art.

Frequently asked questions

How are candle holders best arranged?

In pairs on a mantelpiece or a sideboard, or in groups of different heights along a dining table. Classical and modern candlesticks sit well together when they share the silver, and our Table décor completes the setting.

Can I see a candle holder before I buy it?

Yes. An art advisor can show you any piece on a video call, several at once if you are planning a pair or a group. We ship throughout Mexico from our Mexico City workshop.

How are silver candlesticks cared for?

Every piece is protected by a resistant lacquer, so a soft, dry cloth is all it needs; metal polish and cleaning agents are best avoided. All pieces carry our lifetime guarantee covering manufacturing defects.
