The patience of a heron
A heron hunts by standing perfectly still in shallow water, then striking with its spear-like bill. Herons and egrets live on lakes, rivers and coastal lagoons across Mexico, and anyone who has watched one knows that stillness. In flight a heron folds its neck back into an S, which sets it apart from cranes and storks, who fly with the neck stretched out.
That folded S is the line of the Silver Heron Statue Standing. The bird turns its head down and back to preen, its long neck curved upon itself. Every feather is incised in bright silver, the plumes of the back and breast fall in fine strands, and tall, dark green reeds and water plants rise around its legs, as if it stood at the edge of a lagoon.
Two herons face to face
In the Silver Heron Couple Statue two herons face each other, their necks curving toward one another over a bed of dark green foliage. The plumage carries the same fine detail as the single bird, so the two pieces can stand together as one scene by the water.
A pair of birds facing each other is a traditional image of partnership, which makes this heron sculpture a natural wedding or anniversary gift, and it sits comfortably among our Wedding gifts. Beside the Swan statues it forms a small study of long, curving necks.
Fiona, the modern heron
Silver Heron Figurine - Fiona, the Heron is the counterpoint. Here the bird is reduced to a smooth body and a long, straight beak in mirror-polished silver, with a dark accent at the eye and the wing. She stands on a smooth, rounded stone, and the polish turns the room around her into reflections.
Fiona suits a contemporary shelf or a desk where the naturalistic herons might feel too detailed, and she keeps good company with our Bird statues. In ancient Egypt the Bennu, a heron, was linked with the sun and with rebirth, a reminder of how long this bird has carried meaning.
Frequently asked questions
Why does the standing heron have its neck folded?
It is preening, head turned down and back. Herons also fold the neck into an S in flight, which is how they are told apart from cranes and storks, so the curve is the most characteristic line a heron statue can have.
Is the Heron Couple suitable as a wedding gift?
Yes, and it is the most natural choice in the collection: two birds face to face are a traditional image of partnership, and the piece suits an anniversary just as well. An art advisor can show it on a video call, and we ship throughout Mexico.
How is a silver heron cared for?
A resistant lacquer protects the finish, so a soft, dry cloth is all it needs; metal polish is best avoided. Every heron is designed and finished by hand in Mexico City, where D'Argenta has worked since 1976, and carries a lifetime guarantee covering manufacturing defects.
